Notes

Wash the brussels sprouts and cut off the stem. Peel off any tough outer leaves and cut in half-lengthwise. Heat a large frying pan with olive oil covering the bottom. Put the garlic powder in the pan to heat up. Once it begins to bubble, put the brussels sprouts in, cut/flat side down. Once the pan is full, sprinkle lightly with a little pepper. Cover and let simmer for a good 3 minutes at medium heat. As the sprouts begin to steam, vent the lid to let the moisture out. After 3 minutes, slowly add soy sauce over the top of the sprouts. Coat lightly but evenly. Too much will make the sprouts too salty, but put enough to add salt, flavor and a bit of color. Let the sprouts cook on medium heat for another 2-3 minutes, or until the bottoms are browned and the sprouts are tender and juicy. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, turn off the heat and let the cheese melt in – 30 seconds. Serve them on a platter, browned side up.
